The West African Examinations Council, Nigeria (WAEC), has announced the release of results for the inaugural Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, 2024–First Series.
According to a statement by the council, the Computer-Based WASSCE involved a hybrid method where all questions were projected on the computer screen.
Multiple-choice questions were answered in real-time on the computer, while answers to essay and practical questions were provided in booklets given to the candidates.
The examination, which took place between January 31 and February 17, 2024, saw 8,139 candidates participating across 140 CBT centers nationwide.
The coordination and marking of scripts were carried out at three venues in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna from March 1 to 16, 2024, involving a total of 459 examiners.
Out of the candidates who sat for the exam, 3,424, representing 42.07%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, regardless of whether English Language and Mathematics were included.
Additionally, 2,519 candidates, constituting 30.95%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Despite a slight decrease in candidature by 4.30% compared to the previous year, a total of 21 candidates with special needs, including visual impairment and hearing impairment, were registered for the examination.
The council assured that all candidates with special needs were adequately accommodated during the examination process.
