Trump Celebrates 100 Days Of Second Term With Defiant Speech

Trump Celebrates 100 Days Of Second Term With Defiant Speech.

US President Donald Trump marked the 100-day milestone of his second term in office with a campaign-style speech, touting his achievements and targeting political foes. Addressing a crowd of supporters in Michigan, Trump hailed a “revolution of common sense” and vowed to deliver “profound change” through his presidency.

In a suburb of Detroit, Trump told the gathering that his administration was making significant progress, despite facing numerous challenges. He boasted about the dramatic fall in the number of migrants crossing illegally into the US, claiming it as a major victory for his immigration policies.

However, the economy remains a potential vulnerability for Trump’s administration, particularly with the ongoing global trade war. Despite concerns about rising prices, Trump insisted that his economic policies would ultimately benefit the country.

During the speech, Trump softened his stance on tariffs on imported cars and car parts, following warnings from US car-makers about potential price increases. He also dismissed polls showing his popularity had slipped, labelling them “fake”.

According to Gallup, Trump is the only post-World War Two president to have less than half the public’s support after 100 days in office, with an approval rating of 44%. Nevertheless, the majority of Republican voters continue to back the president.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) strongly criticised Trump’s first 100 days, describing them as a “colossal failure”. “Trump is to blame for the fact that life is more expensive, it’s harder to retire, and a ‘Trump recession’ is at our doorstep,” the DNC said.

Trump’s speech was characteristic of his campaign-style approach, with him mocking his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, and US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. He also screened a video of deportees being expelled from the US, highlighting his immigration crackdown.

Despite facing numerous legal challenges, Trump remains committed to his agenda, insisting that his policies will bring about positive change. As his presidency continues, it remains to be seen how his policies will impact the US economy and society.
