Nigerian Sprinter Tobi Amusan Breaks World Record at Jamaica Athletics Invitational

Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s track and field sensation, has made waves on the global stage by shattering Jamaican sprinter Danielle Williams’ record at the Athletics Invitational, securing her position as the world’s fastest woman in hurdles.

In a captivating display of speed and skill, Amusan asserted her dominance by outpacing world champion Danielle Williams in front of a supportive home crowd, crossing the finish line in a remarkable 12.40 seconds to claim victory in the 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational.

Amusan’s triumph was nothing short of spectacular, as she clocked a blazing world-leading time of 12.40 seconds, leaving a top-class field in her wake. Williams secured second place with a time of 12.46 seconds, followed by American Christina Clemons in third with 12.54 seconds.

This extraordinary feat serves as a bold declaration of Amusan’s intentions ahead of major competitions, including the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 26-year-old sprinter has been in sensational form this year, starting her campaign with an African record of 12.58 seconds in Doha last month.

Building on her incredible performance from last year’s World Championships in Oregon, where she set a jaw-dropping world record of 12.12 seconds en route to winning gold, Amusan’s recent achievement in Jamaica cements her status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics.

Her exceptional early-season performance sends a clear message to her competitors that she is unstoppable in her quest to reclaim her world title. With the Olympics on the horizon, scheduled to commence on July 26 at France’s national stadium, Amusan’s stellar performance positions her as a key contender to lead Nigeria’s charge for gold medals on the global stage.
