President Tinubu Urges Content Creators To Foster Unity And Verify Information.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian digital content creators and social media influencers to use their platforms responsibly to promote national unity and progress. Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit in Abuja on Friday, the President emphasised the critical role of new media in shaping Nigeria’s future, urging young innovators to prioritise integrity and fact-checking before amplifying information.
Addressing the theme “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” Tinubu praised the youth for leveraging digital tools to innovate, educate, and demand accountability. He encouraged them to build businesses that create jobs, produce uplifting content, and foster unity rather than division. “Your generation has recognised this moment. You are not waiting for the future; you are building it,” he said, highlighting the transformative power of digital platforms in driving economic growth and civic engagement.
The President warned against the dangers of misinformation, noting that the digital space is often chaotic and unregulated, with divisive content and deepfakes posing significant risks. “Before you amplify anything, pause. Let Nigeria’s digital space reflect the values that bind us together: connection, compassion, discipline, and patriotism,” he advised. Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting digital innovation through initiatives like the National Digital Innovation Fund and policies to nurture a thriving startup ecosystem.
Drawing inspiration from the Super Falcons’ recent comeback victory, Tinubu challenged young Nigerians to lead with resilience and integrity. “Let your digital footprint reflect the best of our nation. Let your actions speak of a generation that did not wait for permission to lead,” he said. The summit, attended by government officials and hundreds of young APC loyalists, underscored the growing influence of digital media in shaping national discourse.
Tinubu’s message resonated with attendees, who were urged to view patriotism as a call to action through meaningful contributions to society. As Nigeria navigates a complex digital landscape, the President’s words serve as a rallying cry for content creators to champion unity and development.
