In response to the tragic attacks resulting in the loss of over 200 lives across Bokkos, Mangu, and Barkin Ladi local government areas in Plateau state, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the immediate establishment of a Military Barracks.
The barracks will be strategically situated in Miller Farm (Gada Biyu) Mbar District of Bokkos local government area.
President Tinubu has directed General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, to oversee the implementation of this initiative aimed at tackling the security challenges gripping the region.
This decision comes after former Plateau state governor Joshua Dariye had previously initiated efforts to facilitate the establishment of the barracks to stem the tide of incessant attacks, looting, and property destruction.
Once operational, the barracks will be poised to swiftly intervene in addressing the ongoing spate of attacks and killings not only in Bokkos, Mangu, and Barkin Ladi but also in neighbouring areas such as Riyom and Nasarawa state.
The urgency of this initiative is underscored by the simultaneous sacking of communities, widespread looting, and loss of life that marred Christmas Eve 2023 in Bokkos, Mangu, and Barkin Ladi local government areas.
By establishing a Military Barracks in the region, the government aims to bolster security measures and restore much-needed peace and stability to the affected communities.
