Peter Obi Meets Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Amid Political Speculations.
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has held a closed-door meeting with the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, fuelling speculation about potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obi arrived in Bauchi early on Thursday morning and was welcomed at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport at approximately 9:45 a.m. before proceeding directly to the Presidential Lodge at the Government House for discussions with the governor.
While the specifics of their meeting remain undisclosed, political analysts believe it may be linked to possible alliances in preparation for the next general election. Governor Mohammed, a former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, had previously lost the ticket to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Obi has repeatedly emphasised his interest in political partnerships that focus on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, rather than mere power struggles. According to Yunusa Tanko, Spokesman of the Obi/Datti campaign and Labour Party’s Director of Media, Obi is committed to a merger that prioritises lifting Nigerians out of poverty and improving essential services such as healthcare, power supply, and access to clean water.
“He is interested strongly in a merger that is driven by ideology and a programme. But if it’s only for the purpose of power, he is not interested,” Tanko stated.
The meeting between the two prominent politicians has sparked discussions about possible collaborations between the Labour Party and other opposition groups, as the race towards 2027 gradually takes shape.
