President Tinubu Appoints Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura As Director-General Of Citizenship And Leadership Training Centre.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura as the Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), a key institution dedicated to fostering leadership skills and civic responsibility among Nigerian youth. The announcement, made on Friday, 23 May 2025, underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening national development through capacity building and youth empowerment.

Senator Kaura, a prominent figure from Zamfara State, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as a senator and as Chairman of the North West Development Commission (NWDC). His nomination for the NWDC chairmanship was submitted to the Senate in September 2024, reflecting his longstanding involvement in regional and national development initiatives. Kaura’s appointment to the CLTC is seen as a strategic move to leverage his leadership expertise to advance the centre’s mandate of promoting discipline, patriotism, and leadership among Nigerians.

The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, established to provide experiential training, aims to equip young Nigerians with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society. Under Kaura’s leadership, the centre is expected to expand its programmes, focusing on civic education, leadership development, and community engagement, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

The appointment has been met with widespread approval. Political stakeholders in the North-West, including former Kebbi State governors, have recently reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu’s leadership, citing his commitment to regional development. “Senator Kaura’s appointment is a testament to the President’s focus on placing capable hands in critical positions,” said a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State.

This move follows a series of strategic appointments by President Tinubu, including the recent reconstitution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) board and the appointment of 72 executives to the River Basin Development Authorities, some of whom, including Kaura’s peers, are still awaiting formal letters. The delay in formalising some appointments has sparked minor controversy, but the presidency has assured swift resolution to ensure seamless operations.

As Senator Kaura prepares to assume his role, expectations are high for the revitalisation of the CLTC. Stakeholders have urged him to prioritise innovative training programmes that address contemporary challenges facing Nigerian youth, such as unemployment and social unrest. “This is an opportunity to inspire a new generation of leaders,” said a youth leader in Abuja.

The presidency has expressed confidence in Kaura’s ability to deliver, with a statement urging him to enhance the centre’s impact on national development. As Nigeria navigates economic and social challenges, Kaura’s leadership at the CLTC is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping a more engaged and empowered citizenry.
