President Tinubu Appoints New Pro-Chancellor For Bayero University, Replaces Ganduje Ally.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd.) as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK). The announcement, made on Friday, marks a significant change in the institution’s leadership, with Kaita taking over from Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, a close ally of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The decision, according to a statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, allows Dr. Gawuna to focus on his role as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). Gawuna’s replacement underscores President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to streamline leadership roles within federal institutions, ensuring efficiency and dedication to assigned responsibilities.
Air Vice Marshal Kaita brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Before retiring from the Nigerian Air Force, he served as Director of Strategy at the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation. His tenure in the military was marked by significant contributions to training and standardisation, which are expected to enhance the governance and strategic direction of Bayero University.
The appointment has sparked discussions within political and academic circles, given Gawuna’s ties to Ganduje, who currently chairs the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Observers note that this move reflects Tinubu’s broader strategy to balance political affiliations with administrative competence in key appointments.
Kaita’s leadership is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives to BUK, fostering academic excellence and institutional growth. The university community and stakeholders await his contributions as he assumes this pivotal role with immediate effect.
