President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his successful election as the President of the Republic of Senegal.

This announcement was made public through a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday, March 27th.

President Tinubu expressed his optimism regarding President-elect Faye’s capabilities, acknowledging his promising potential and commendable track record.

He extended his sincere wishes for success to Faye as he embarks on the significant responsibility of leading the people of Senegal.

Additionally, President Tinubu commended His Excellency, President Macky Sall, for overseeing an election process that has been widely lauded for its peaceful and transparent nature.

Reflecting on the broader implications of the Senegalese election, President Tinubu underscored his long-held belief in the robustness of democracy in West Africa.

He emphasised that the success of the presidential election in Senegal, coupled with the recently conducted general election in Liberia, serves as a testament to the strong foundation of democracy in the region. President Tinubu asserted that this foundation will only continue to strengthen through the principles of good governance, justice, and fairness.

In his capacity as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Tinubu highlighted the significance of the Senegalese election in advancing the organization’s objectives. He stressed that the peaceful conduct of elections in Senegal contributes to promoting peace, constitutional order, and fostering stronger ties among member states within the sub-regional organisation.

President Tinubu concluded his remarks by extending warm congratulations to the people of Senegal and assuring them of Nigeria’s unwavering support and best wishes as they embark on this new chapter in their nation’s journey.
