Oyo State Governor Bolsters Police With Donation Of Six Armoured Personnel Carriers.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken a significant step to enhance security in the state by donating six refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Nigeria Police Force. The official handover ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State Government Secretariat in Ibadan, where Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal represented Makinde in presenting the vehicles to the Oyo State Police Command.

The donation is part of the Makinde administration’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the state’s security framework and ensuring the safety of lives and property. Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor Lawal emphasised that the refurbished APCs would significantly boost the operational capacity of the police, enabling them to respond more effectively to security challenges. He described the gesture as a testament to the state government’s dedication to supporting security agencies in tackling crime and maintaining peace across Oyo State.

The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, Johnson Adenola, received the vehicles and expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for the administration’s consistent support. He assured that the APCs would be deployed strategically to enhance rapid response capabilities and safeguard communities throughout the state. “This donation will significantly enhance our ability to respond to emergencies and protect the people of Oyo State,” Adenola stated.

The handover of the six APCs builds on the state government’s previous efforts to bolster security infrastructure. The administration has already provided 500 operational vehicles and 396 motorcycles to the Oyo State Police Command, demonstrating a sustained partnership with law enforcement. These contributions have positioned Oyo as one of the most proactive states in Nigeria in addressing security concerns, according to Lawal.

Governor Makinde’s administration has prioritised security as a cornerstone of governance, recognising the importance of equipping law enforcement agencies to combat rising threats. The refurbished APCs are expected to play a critical role in enhancing police operations, particularly in areas vulnerable to crime and insecurity.

This latest donation has been widely praised by residents and stakeholders, who see it as a proactive measure to ensure citizen safety. The Makinde administration’s focus on security, coupled with its investments in infrastructure and institutional development, continues to set a strong foundation for peace and progress in Oyo State.
