Remo Stars Extend Lead As Heartland And Plateau United Secure Crucial Wins.

Remo Stars strengthened their position at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Akwa United on Sunday. The league leaders now hold a five-point advantage, while Akwa United’s struggles deepened as they sank further into the relegation zone.

Akwa United started brightly with debutant Uche Sebastine scoring in the sixth minute to give the home side an early lead. Despite their resolute defence, Remo Stars mounted a late comeback. Samuel Anakwe equalised in the 75th minute, and Olamilekan Adedayo sealed the victory ten minutes later, ensuring Remo Stars continued their title charge.

In another key fixture, Plateau United defeated Rivers United 2-1 in a thrilling encounter. Olawale Doyeni opened the scoring for Plateau United in the 21st minute, and despite Rivers United levelling late in the 87th minute through Ndifreke, Emmanuel Ihezuo restored Plateau’s lead in added time to secure all three points.

 Heartland Edge Past Lobi Stars

Meanwhile, Heartland FC earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lobi Stars at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. John Bassey’s 57th-minute header, from a well-taken corner by Chijioke Opara, proved to be the decisive moment in a game filled with missed opportunities for the visitors.

Lobi Stars dominated possession and created numerous chances, with Sunday Chinedu and Jackson Eru coming close to breaking the deadlock in the first half. However, the hosts’ defence held firm, frustrating Lobi Stars’ attackers throughout the match.

Despite introducing fresh legs in the second half, including Segun Oloruntoba and Reuben Yem, Lobi Stars were unable to find the equaliser. Heartland’s victory continues their upward climb in the league standings, while Lobi Stars remain in 18th place with just 20 points from 20 games.

Technical Adviser Daniel Amokachi praised his team’s effort, stating, “I give my players a thumbs up because they gave all they could.” He also expressed confidence in the team’s potential for improvement under the guidance of Coach Emmanuel Amunike.

 Focus Shifts to Midweek Matches

With the league heating up, Remo Stars look to consolidate their lead, while struggling sides like Akwa United and Lobi Stars will aim for redemption in their midweek fixtures. The title race and relegation battle remain wide open as teams fight for crucial points.
