The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) has announced plans to hand over the operation and maintenance of its Warri and Kaduna refineries to a private firm.
This announcement was made on Friday via the company’s official X handle.
NNPC Limited is inviting interested bidders to provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for both the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). The tender notice specifies that the organisation selected must have substantial experience in ‘Product Tanks/Storage Facilities Maintenance’ as well as ‘Commissioning, Start-Up, Post-Commissioning, and Turnaround Experience.’
The Warri and Kaduna refineries have capacities of 125,000 barrels per day and 110,000 barrels per day, respectively. The Warri refinery was commissioned in 1983, while the Kaduna refinery was inaugurated in 1980.
This development follows a recent announcement by NNPCL’s Chief Financial Officer, Umar Ajiya, who set September 2024 as the new target date for the commencement of commercial production at the Port Harcourt refinery.
