NNPC Announces Nationwide Rollout Of 100 CNG Stations Within The Next Year

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced plans to roll out an additional 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations nationwide over the next twelve months.

This announcement was made by Huub Stokman, Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited, during the simultaneous inauguration of 11 CNG stations across Abuja and Lagos on Thursday.

Stokman highlighted the cost benefits of CNG, stating, “CNG will be about 40 percent cheaper than petrol in Nigeria. And with continued investments, it could become a significant part of our energy mix.”

The initiative is part of NNPC’s broader strategy to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources and provide more affordable fuel options to the public. By the end of the next year, NNPC Retail aims to have launched over 100 CNG sites.

This development follows the launch of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023. The initiative was introduced to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal implemented in June last year.
