Nigerian Women’s Beach Volleyball Team Secures Spot At 2025 World Championships In Adelaide.

In a thrilling achievement for Nigerian sport, the country’s women’s beach volleyball team has secured qualification for the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, set to take place in Adelaide, Australia, from 14 to 23 November. The team earned their place at the prestigious global event after a hard-fought victory at the recent CAVB Continental Championship in Martil, Morocco.

The Nigerian duo of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa clinched their qualification with an impressive 2-1 victory (21-14, 20-22, 15-9) over Egypt, securing third place in the continental championship. Their performance showcased resilience, skill, and determination, earning them a well-deserved ticket to compete among the world’s elite in Adelaide next year.

Head coach Kayode Ajilore praised the team’s dedication, describing the result as a testament to their hard work and commitment. “Firstly, I want to give glory to God for crowning our efforts with success,” Ajilore said. “The players have shown the world that our African Games silver medal was no fluke. This result in Morocco is an indication of the determination and teamwork within the squad.” He also acknowledged the support of Engineer Musa Nimrod, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, for providing a platform for the players to excel.

The 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships will mark a historic moment as the event is hosted in Australia for the first time, with Adelaide transforming its northern riverbank into a vibrant beach volleyball hub. The tournament, expected to feature 48 teams per gender, will see Nigeria’s Mbah and Bawa compete against top teams from around the globe, including powerhouses like Brazil, China, and the United States. The event will include pool play from 14 to 17 November, elimination phases from 18 to 21 November, and culminate in the medal matches on 22 and 23 November.

The qualification has sparked excitement across Nigeria, with fans and sports enthusiasts celebrating the team’s achievement. Posts on X reflected the national pride, with one user declaring, “Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team is heading to Adelaide! A massive win for our girls!” The victory in Morocco builds on Nigeria’s growing reputation in beach volleyball, following their silver medal at the African Games, and underscores the team’s potential to make an impact on the global stage.

As preparations begin for the World Championships, Coach Ajilore expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete at the highest level. “We are not just going to Adelaide to participate; we are going to make Nigeria proud,” he said. The team’s journey to Australia will be a chance to showcase their talent and inspire a new generation of volleyball players in Nigeria.

The 2025 Championships, hosted at The Drive, Pinky Flat, and Torrens Parade Ground, promise a festive atmosphere with thousands of fans expected to attend. With Nigeria’s women’s team now confirmed among the competitors, the event will offer a platform for Mbah and Bawa to demonstrate Africa’s growing prowess in beach volleyball.
