Nigerian Government To Offer 753 Luxury Duplexes To Low And Middle-Income Families.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled plans to make a large estate of 753 duplexes, previously linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele, available to low and middle-income Nigerians. The initiative, part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to promote inclusive homeownership and address the country’s housing deficit.

Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Housing, confirmed that the estate, currently under construction, will undergo rigorous assessments for structural soundness and integrity before being offered for sale. “The next step is to profile the houses and determine how they will be sold to Nigerians,” Haiba stated. “The Minister’s intention has always been to ensure homeownership for all categories of Nigerians, particularly low and middle-income earners, and we expect this vision to be reflected here.”

The duplexes, part of a broader portfolio of over 10,000 housing units nearing completion nationwide under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, will be sold through flexible payment options, including mortgages, instalment plans, and rent-to-own schemes. Haiba emphasised that these options are designed to make homeownership accessible to ordinary Nigerians, aligning with the government’s commitment to affordability and inclusivity.

To ensure transparency, the Ministry of Housing has developed an online portal, renewedhopehomes.fmhud.gov.ng, through which the sales process will be managed. “Any Nigerian can log onto the portal from their home, browse available units and locations, select a preferred house and payment option, submit their application, and receive an offer letter instantly,” Haiba explained. The portal eliminates human interference, addressing past concerns about opaque housing allocation processes and reinforcing the administration’s focus on accountability.

The estate’s connection to Emefiele, whose tenure as CBN Governor ended in 2023, has sparked public interest, though Haiba declined to comment on speculation surrounding the properties’ origins, focusing instead on the Ministry’s transparent approach. “People may speculate due to past experiences, but the Renewed Hope administration is doing things differently,” he said.

The announcement marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to tackle its housing shortage, which affects millions of citizens. The Ministry’s broader Renewed Hope Housing Programme aims to deliver thousands of homes across the country, with the 753 duplexes representing a fraction of the ongoing projects. By prioritising low and middle-income earners, the government seeks to empower ordinary Nigerians with opportunities for homeownership, a key pillar of President Tinubu’s agenda.

As construction nears completion, the Ministry is expected to provide further details on the sale and distribution process. Nigerians interested in the scheme are encouraged to visit renewedhopehomes.fmhud.gov.ng for updates and to explore available housing options.
