NDLEA Arrests 112 Suspects, Seizes 56kg Of Drugs In Ebonyi State.

The Ebonyi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 112 individuals for drug-related offences and the seizure of nearly 56 kilogrammes of illicit substances in the first quarter of 2025.

In a statement issued by the State Commander, Mr Peter Ogar, the agency revealed that the arrests were made between January and March and involved 85 males and 27 females, ranging in age from 16 to 76 years. The arrests covered a spectrum of drug-related crimes including dealing, usage, and trafficking.

During the same period, the Command secured the conviction of four individuals and provided counselling for 59 others—comprising 45 males and 14 females—aged between 21 and 76 years. Mr Ogar also disclosed that one of the suspects was apprehended in possession of a locally fabricated pistol.

The commander reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to fighting drug abuse across Ebonyi State and appealed for broader stakeholder collaboration in addressing the menace. “We have intensified our public awareness efforts, including workshops and sensitisation campaigns across all 13 local government areas, with a particular focus on youth and secondary school students,” he said.

A detailed breakdown of the seized substances shows that 43.582kg of Cannabis Sativa was confiscated, along with 11.2 litres (equivalent to 11.2kg) of “monkey tail”, 0.054kg of methamphetamine, 46 tablets (0.020kg) of bromazepam, and 84 ampoules (0.244kg) of pentazocine. Additional seizures included 0.014kg of heroin, 0.004kg of Tramadol tablets, 0.400kg of Tramadol 100mg (1,189 capsules), 0.207kg of diazepam (988 tablets), and other psychotropic substances—bringing the total weight of drugs seized to 55.947kg.

The agency has pledged to sustain its efforts in tackling drug abuse and trafficking while continuing to engage communities in education and prevention strategies.
