Lagos State Mandates Hospitality Businesses To Secure LASPA And LASTMA Approvals.
Lagos State Government has issued a directive requiring all hospitality businesses, including hotels, event centres, and nightclubs, to obtain approvals from the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The move aims to tackle indiscriminate parking and traffic congestion caused by these establishments, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhanced public safety across the state.
The directive was announced in a joint statement by LASPA General Manager Adebisi Adelabu and LASTMA General Manager Bakare-Oki Olalekan, following a meeting at the Parking Authority office on Thursday, 7 August 2025. The statement highlighted the need to address persistent issues of unregulated parking and traffic bottlenecks, which have been exacerbated by hospitality venues. Operators are now required to register with both agencies and comply with the state’s parking and traffic regulations, as outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Laws 2018.
LASPA is tasked with regulating parking across the state, while LASTMA focuses on traffic management and enforcement. Although their roles are distinct, the agencies are collaborating to support the state’s broader transportation strategy. The directive follows recent enforcement actions, including the sealing of Vaniti Club House on Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island, on 6 August 2025, due to repeated violations of traffic regulations. The government has warned that non-compliant businesses face prosecution and potential closure.
The Lagos State Government has also urged residents and commuters to report establishments that obstruct traffic or create public nuisances via LASTMA’s toll-free emergency hotline. This initiative is part of a wider campaign to enforce compliance among hospitality venues, with ongoing inspections targeting traffic-prone areas. The government’s actions reflect its commitment to maintaining order and improving mobility in Lagos, a bustling metropolis often challenged by congestion.
