Ladi Adebutu Attributes 2023 Election Loss To Gentlemanly Politics, Pledges Non-Violent Approach

Ladi Adebutu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Ogun State elections, during the 92nd memorial of his great-grandfather, Pa Alimi Adebutu,  gave reason for his electoral defeat, attributing his defeat to his commitment to non-violent politics.

Adebutu revealed that his adherence to a non-violent approach resulted in the loss of 99 polling units during the election. Despite facing disruptions and provocations, he remained resolute in his stance against resorting to violence.

Speaking to the press following a prayer session, Adebutu reiterated his belief in the continuity of life beyond death and reaffirmed his dedication to a politics free from aggression and desperation.

“I cannot endorse the shedding of blood in pursuit of political goals. My belief in the continuity of life after death guides my approach. I remain steadfast in upholding non-violence,” Adebutu asserted, underscoring his commitment to peaceful engagement in politics.





During the event, Adebutu also reflected on the legacy of his great-grandfather, Pa Alimi Adebutu, a respected trader and agriculturist who was buried in the Ijeun-Akoni community. He highlighted the enduring impact of his ancestor’s good deeds and contributions to community development, emphasizing the importance of kindness and service.

Regarding his future in politics, Adebutu expressed confidence in his eligibility to contest elections across Ogun State, citing his deep familial ties to the region. He asserted his status as an indigene of Ogun State, affirming his right to represent any part of the state.

“My lineage has a rich history in Ogun State, affording me the privilege to seek representation in any area,” Adebutu declared, emphasizing his familial connections spanning various regions within Ogun State.
