Kevin De Bruyne Stars In Manchester City’s Comeback Victory Against Newcastle

Manchester City secured a dramatic comeback victory against Newcastle, with Kevin De Bruyne stealing the spotlight in his return from a long-term hamstring injury. De Bruyne, coming off the bench, not only scored a crucial goal but also set up Oscar Bobb’s stoppage-time winner, marking a triumphant return to Premier League action for the Belgian playmaker.

The match took an unexpected turn for Newcastle, managed by Eddie Howe, as they succumbed to a sixth defeat in their last seven Premier League games. Despite two goals in two first-half minutes that initially threatened to frustrate the champions, City’s dominance ultimately prevailed.

The victory propels Manchester City to the second spot in the Premier League table, trailing leaders Liverpool by just two points. The win sets City in a formidable position as they head into a two-week winter break, with the potential return of Erling Haaland further bolstering their attacking prowess alongside De Bruyne.

The game got off to a disrupted start as City goalkeeper Ederson sustained an injury while attempting to prevent a goal. Despite the setback, City continued to dominate possession in the opening half-hour but struggled to convert chances without the likes of De Bruyne and Haaland in the lineup.

The deadlock was finally broken by Bernardo Silva, who showcased brilliance with a backheel to find the far corner of the net. However, Newcastle quickly turned the tide with two stunning goals in just over two minutes from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

City regained control in the second half but lacked a cutting edge until De Bruyne’s entrance. The Belgian maestro, making his return to Premier League action since the season’s opening day, scored a precise low finish from outside the box to level the score.

De Bruyne’s impact wasn’t limited to scoring, as his exquisite pass set up Oscar Bobb’s stoppage-time winner. The young Norwegian displayed quick feet to round the goalkeeper and secure the victory for City.

The win leaves Newcastle in a challenging position, slipping to 10th place and facing an 11-point gap from the Champions League places. In contrast, Manchester City’s jubilation over the comeback victory solidifies their position as serious contenders for the Premier League title.
