U.S. First Lady, Jill Biden, hosted a farewell luncheon for First Ladies from around the world, including Nigeria’s Oluremi Tinubu, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The event, held on Wednesday, marked Jill Biden’s final gathering as First Lady of the United States.
Reflecting on the relationships built during her time in office, Jill Biden expressed gratitude for the continued partnership of the global leaders’ spouses in promoting peace and development worldwide. She assured the attendees that their relationships would continue beyond her tenure, which ends in January 2025.
“I appreciate you all for always attending this gathering. I have a strong feeling that I will see more of you in the next chapter of my life,” she stated, as shared on X by Busola Kukoyi, spokesperson for Nigeria’s First Lady. “I wish you all the best as you return to your respective countries, especially those with long journeys ahead.”
The luncheon, held at Pier 57 in New York, is part of a tradition during UNGA sessions, where global leaders and their spouses engage in bilateral talks, strengthen diplomatic ties, and foster partnerships.
Oluremi Tinubu’s attendance at the event concluded her engagements at the 79th UNGA session.
