Isak Leads Newcastle To Dominant Carabao Cup Semi-Final Victory Over Arsenal.

Alexander Isak’s scintillating form continued to light up the Emirates Stadium as Newcastle United took a commanding lead in their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal. The Swedish striker’s 14th goal in his last 15 games paved the way for a 2-0 victory, placing Newcastle on the brink of their first-ever League Cup triumph.

Newcastle, who have never claimed the competition, now stand just one match away from their second final in three seasons. They need only to avoid defeat or lose by no more than one goal in the second leg at St James’ Park on 5 February to book their ticket to Wembley.

Despite Arsenal’s strong position in the Premier League, sitting in second place, the Gunners were outclassed on home turf, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the return fixture. The match saw Arsenal start as favourites, but Newcastle’s clinical performance underscored their cup ambitions.

The breakthrough came when goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s long free-kick was headed on by Sven Botman, finding Jacob Murphy who then set up Isak. The Swede demonstrated his composure to loft the ball over David Raya into the Arsenal net.

The visitors doubled their lead early in the second half through Anthony Gordon. His goal came after Raya parried Isak’s shot, only for Gordon to be on hand to slot home the rebound.

Arsenal had their moments, with Gabriel Martinelli striking the post when the scoreline was still level, and both Jurrien Timber and William Saliba missing chances with headers from close range.

Attention now turns to the other semi-final, where Tottenham Hotspur will host Liverpool on Wednesday at 20:00 GMT, with the final set to take place at Wembley on 16 March.

This result not only keeps Newcastle’s cup dreams alive but also marks their seventh consecutive win across all competitions, showcasing their resilience and ambition under Eddie Howe’s stewardship. Meanwhile, Arsenal will need to regroup swiftly if they are to overturn this deficit and keep their hopes of domestic silverware this season alive.
