“ I Would Rather Select A 63 Year Old Goalkeeper Than Rashford” Says Rúben Amorim

Rashford’s United Future In Doubt As Amorim Questions His Effort.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has cast doubt on Marcus Rashford’s future at the club, citing the forward’s lack of commitment as the reason for his continued absence from the squad. Rashford, 27, has not featured for United since their Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen on 12 December.

Speaking after United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, Amorim was clear in his stance, stating he would rather select 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital for the bench than a player who is not fully committed.

“It’s always the same reason – the training, the way I see a footballer should behave in life. It’s about every day, every detail,” said Amorim. “If things don’t change, I won’t change. If you give your maximum and do the right things, we can use every player. But I won’t compromise on effort and dedication.”

 Transfer Window Uncertainty

With the transfer window set to close on 3 February, Rashford’s future remains unclear. While there had been speculation about a move to AC Milan, the Italian club’s recent signing of Kyle Walker has ruled out a transfer, as they can only register one English player this month.

A potential loan move to Barcelona also seems unlikely, as it hinges on the departures of Eric García or Ansu Fati, neither of whom have shown interest in leaving the Nou Camp.

Sources close to Rashford insist the forward has no issues with Amorim and is willing to play for the club again. However, Amorim’s public criticism has raised questions about the player’s standing at Old Trafford.

 Pundits React

The situation has drawn mixed reactions from football pundits. Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given supported Amorim’s stance, telling BBC Match of the Day: “The fans aren’t stupid. They see it’s not good enough from the players, and Ruben Amorim is just being honest. If you don’t train hard and dedicate your life, you won’t be in the team.”

Ex-Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger added: “Amorim wants to set an example, but this could damage his relationship with Rashford permanently. Amorim is under pressure – if he’s harsh with his players, his team must deliver results.”

Despite Rashford’s absence, Manchester United secured a narrow victory over Fulham, keeping their hopes alive in the Premier League. However, the tension surrounding the England international’s situation has left fans divided over whether Amorim’s approach is the right one.

As the transfer deadline approaches, all eyes will be on Old Trafford to see if Rashford’s future is resolved or if this saga continues to cast a shadow over United’s season.
