High-Stakes Trial: Emefiele Vehemently Denies Illegal Possession Of Firearms, Granted Bail

There are indications that Department of State Services (DSS) operatives are planning to rearrest Godwin Emefiele, despite the court granting him bail.

Sequel the bail option of 20 million naira granted to Godwin Emefiele by the Federal High Court seating in Lagos, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, entered a plea of not guilty to the two charges of alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition during his arraignment at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Department of state service had placed two count charges on bordering on illegal possession of firearms and ammunition preferred against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice before the vacation judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

The ministry of justice in the charge accused Emefiele of possessing a single-barreled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371), without a license and possession of 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges), without a license Adding that  the defendant committed the offences on June 15, 2023, at No. 3b Iru Close, Ikoyi area of Lagos.

According to the charge, the offence committed contravened Section 4 and Section 8 of the Firearms Cap F28 laws of the Federation Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b) (I),(II) of the same Act.





Meanwhile, a scene of mild drama unfolded at the Federal High Court in Lagos as the Department of State Services (DSS), operatives and Nigeria Correctional Service officials engaged in a tussle over the custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

While the defendant’s lawyers were working on fulfilling his bail conditions, a mild drama ensued within the court premises as fully hooded Department of State Services (DSS), operatives and Nigeria Correctional Service officials argued over who would have custody of the embattled Central Bank of Nigeria boss. Two Hilux vehicles belonging to the two government agencies were positioned near the entrance of the court.

The prison service also brought dogs into the court premises.

According to sources, there are indications that Department of State Services (DSS), operatives are planning to rearrest Godwin Emefiele, despite the court granting him bail.
