Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool defender Larry Lloyd has passed away at the age of 75.
Lloyd played a pivotal role in Brian Clough’s legendary Nottingham Forest team, helping them secure the First Division title in 1977-78 and achieve back-to-back European Cup triumphs. He also contributed to Liverpool’s success, winning the First Division in 1972-73 and the UEFA Cup during the same season.
Nottingham Forest expressed their deep sadness at Lloyd’s passing, describing him as an essential part of the ‘Miracle Men’ who achieved European glory in 1979 and 1980. Lloyd made 218 appearances for Forest during his time with the club.
“We send our condolences to Larry’s friends and family at this truly sad time. Rest in peace, Larry,” Nottingham Forest stated in a tribute to the late defender.
Lloyd began his career at Bristol Rovers before moving to Liverpool in 1969, where he made a significant impact with 218 appearances for the Reds. He later had stints at Coventry City and Notts County before retiring as a player-manager at Wigan.
