EFCC Declares Atiku’s Son-in-Law Wanted Over Alleged Money Laundering

EFCC Declares Atiku’s Son-in-Law Wanted Over Alleged Money Laundering.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Abdullahi Bashir Haske, a businessman and son-in-law of former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, wanted in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering. The announcement was made on Thursday, 21 August 2025, through a public notice issued by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

According to the EFCC, Haske, aged 38, is being sought for his alleged involvement in serious financial crimes. The agency has urged the public to provide any information that could lead to his apprehension, stating that credible tips should be reported to the nearest police station or any EFCC office across Nigeria, including those in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and other major cities. The commission has also provided a dedicated telephone line and email address for anonymous submissions.

Haske was last known to reside at two upscale addresses in Lagos: No. 6 Mosley Road, Ikoyi, and 952/953 Idejo Street, Victoria Island. The EFCC’s statement included a photograph of the suspect to aid identification, which was shared across its verified social media platforms. Authorities have emphasised that the case is part of their ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes, with no direct mention of Atiku Abubakar in relation to the allegations.

The development has sparked significant public interest, given Haske’s familial connection to a prominent opposition figure. Political analysts suggest the move could fuel discussions within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) navigates internal challenges ahead of future elections. However, the EFCC has maintained that its actions are strictly in line with its mandate to tackle economic and financial misconduct.

The public is encouraged to assist by providing any credible information about Haske’s whereabouts to support the EFCC’s investigation. The agency has offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, and Abuja, ensuring nationwide coverage for reporting.
