CAC Launches AI-Powered Business Registration Portal.
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has unveiled an innovative AI-powered business registration portal, aimed at streamlining the process of starting a business in Nigeria.
The new platform, launched in Abuja, is designed to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, allowing entrepreneurs to register their companies faster and with greater ease. CAC Registrar-General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, described the portal as a game-changer for Nigeria’s business environment, aligning with the government’s ease-of-doing-business reforms.
The AI-driven system enables users to complete registration processes online, from name searches to document uploads, with real-time support from an intelligent chatbot. The portal also features automated compliance checks to ensure submissions meet regulatory standards, reducing errors and delays.
The CAC projects that the platform will significantly cut registration times, which have historically been a barrier for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria.Business owners and industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting its potential to boost entrepreneurship and attract foreign investment.
The portal is expected to enhance transparency, as applicants can track their applications and receive instant feedback. However, concerns have been raised about accessibility for rural entrepreneurs with limited internet access, prompting the CAC to promise offline support centres in key locations.
The launch of the portal comes as Nigeria seeks to improve its ranking on global business indices, where it has lagged due to regulatory inefficiencies. By leveraging AI, the CAC aims to position Nigeria as a competitive destination for startups and investors.
The success of this initiative will depend on its scalability and the CAC’s ability to address teething problems, such as server reliability and user education, as businesses transition to the new system.
