Japan winger Kaoru Mitoma has signed a new deal with Brighton that runs until June 2027.
The 26-year-old joined the club from Kawasaki Frontale in August 2021 and was then loaned out to Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise.
Mitoma made his Brighton debut in August 2022 and has 13 goals and 12 assists in 52 outings for the club.
“It’s great news. Kaoru is our top player,” said Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi.
Mitoma scored seven league goals and registered five assists last season to help Brighton finish sixth in the Premier League as they also secured qualification for the Europa League group stage.
He has three goals and three assists in eight top-flight appearances during the present campaign.
“Ensuring that a player of Kaoru’s quality will remain with us for the long term is fantastic news,” said Brighton technical director David Weir.
“His success also reflects the work of the departments that played a role in his recruitment, helping him gain important experience on loan and ultimately becoming a big part of Roberto’s first-team group.”
