Bayer Leverkusen Set €50m Valuation On Victor Boniface Amid Growing Transfer Speculation

Bayer Leverkusen Set €50m Valuation On Victor Boniface Amid Growing Transfer Speculation.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have placed a €50 million price tag on their Nigerian striker Victor Boniface as transfer rumours intensify ahead of the summer window, according to reports from Sport Bild and other sources. The 24-year-old Super Eagles forward, who played a pivotal role in the club’s historic Bundesliga and DFB Pokal triumphs last season, has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, prompting Leverkusen to lower their asking price from a reported €70 million earlier this year.

Boniface enjoyed a sensational debut campaign with Die Werkself in 2023/24, scoring 21 goals and providing nine assists in 34 appearances across all competitions under former manager Xabi Alonso. However, injuries have hampered his form this season, with the striker managing 11 goals in 27 outings, leading to a dip in his role within the squad. Reports indicate that Leverkusen are now prepared to part ways with Boniface, favouring Czech forward Patrik Schick as their primary striker, with the club keen to avoid retaining both players on their books for the 2025/26 season.

The decision follows a collapsed January transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, who reportedly agreed a €60-70 million deal but opted to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead. Since then, Boniface has struggled to regain his starting position, with only two goals scored post-transfer saga. Concerns over his on-pitch behaviour, notably an argument with teammate Emiliano Buendia during a 4-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt, have also factored into Leverkusen’s willingness to negotiate his departure.

Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle United have been prominently linked with the Nigerian international, with Chelsea viewing him as a potential reinforcement for their attacking line, though their primary target remains Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Boniface’s physicality and proven goal-scoring ability in the Bundesliga make him an attractive prospect, though he has previously expressed a preference for remaining in Germany or moving to Spain over a Premier League switch.

With Leverkusen facing a transitional summer—marked by the departures of key figures like Alonso, Jeremie Frimpong, and Jonathan Tah—the sale of Boniface could provide financial flexibility to bolster their squad. As the transfer window approaches, the €50 million valuation is likely to spark further interest, with Boniface’s next move poised to be a defining moment in his career.
