Assassination Of Indian Politician Baba Siddique Shocks Mumbai

Assassination Of Indian Politician Baba Siddique Shocks Mumbai.

The assassination of prominent politician Baba Ziauddin Siddique in Mumbai has sparked national outrage and political tensions across India. Siddique, aged 66, was shot near his car on Saturday night while leaving his son’s office in the busy Bandra area. He was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Siddique, a former Congress member and influential politician, was part of the coalition governing Maharashtra state. His murder has reignited fears of political violence reminiscent of the 1990s when Mumbai’s underworld frequently targeted politicians and film stars.

Police have arrested three suspects linked to a notorious criminal gang, and investigations are ongoing. The attackers reportedly distracted Siddique’s police guards with a firecracker before opening fire, hitting him multiple times. A bystander was also injured in the attack. Authorities recovered pistols and live ammunition from the suspects and are actively searching for their accomplices.

Siddique had received a death threat two weeks before the incident, prompting an upgrade in his security, raising concerns about how the attackers managed to breach his protection. The police suspect the involvement of the Bishnoi gang, whose leader, Lawrence Bishnoi, is in a high-security prison. Bishnoi, a figure frequently in the headlines for alleged crimes orchestrated from prison, is being investigated for his possible role in the assassination.

Siddique began his political career in the 1980s and served in the Maharashtra state legislature, where he became a minister in 2004. Known for his political influence and high-profile iftar parties attended by Bollywood stars, his death has sent shockwaves through the political and entertainment communities.

The assassination has led to political blame, with opposition leaders criticising the Maharashtra government for failing to maintain law and order. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the killing as a “complete failure of law and order,” while Chief Minister Eknath Shinde vowed that the culprits, whether linked to the Bishnoi gang or others, would face justice.

As Mumbai grapples with this tragic event, the state government faces increased pressure to bring those responsible to justice and to ensure the safety of political figures in the lead-up to the upcoming state elections.
