The Nigerian Senate has made key appointments to its leadership positions. Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, a member of the All Progressives Congress representing Kwara South, has been named the new Deputy Leader of the Senate. Additionally, Senator Nwebonyi Onyeka has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief Whip.
The announcement of these appointments was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary session. Senator Ashiru, who previously held the position of Deputy Chief Whip, has now been promoted to the role of Deputy Leader of the Senate.
This change in leadership was necessitated by the appointment of Senator Dave Umahi as Minister of Works by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leaving the position of Deputy Leader of the Senate vacant.
Further details regarding these appointments are expected to be provided in due course.
