Five Reasons You Should Dress Well

Among the basic necessity of humans is clothing.

It is as important as other basic needs such as food and shelter. To cover our nakedness, it is very important to put something on even if it’s the fig tree, just like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Man has evolved from just the covering of the body to standing out in his clothing, which results in standing out as a being in all aspects of life.

Looking good is good business; you just have to be involved in the transaction to have a good life. I thereby bring to you five things you would derive from dressing well. They are discussed below in no particular order:

It creates a positive first impression

The first thing that introduces you to whoever you are meeting is the way you are dressed. It is your ‘name’ even before you introduce yourself. The cliché ‘you are addressed by the way you dress’ is quite true. You get a warm handshake or a mere ‘hi,’ depending on the way you dress. Dressing well thereby gives a positive impression about you even before you open your mouth. This sets the tone of your conversation with people of higher status/position. You just have to create a positive impression this week; you just have to dress well.

It helps with your confidence

Have you ever tried delivering a keynote speech on a faded/rough shirt? I bet if you are on course to deliver a Shakespeare-Esque word, you’ll be low on confidence when you see the audience’s eyes on you even if they are the ones trying to maintain eye contact with your masterclass delivery. When you dress well, you’ll be confident and want to go outside the box. Your body language and movement would be top-notch because you’ll want to dazzle with your dapper look. Imagine wearing a worn-out zip; your confidence will be low because ‘your mind would be at your treasure’ i.e. trying to cover up the loose part of your dressing.

It makes you useful at work

the financial institution always makes it a point of duty to make their staff, especially those in the marketing department, dress well, even if it is granting them loans for this cause. They know we all feel safe when we see people handling our money not looking like they need it to cater for themselves first. Those who dress well are used as the face of their working place. Dressing well is just one of the things that can make you stand out in that department, you just have to get that.

It evokes respect

even if you are meeting those who are as old as your parents, you will still earn their respect if you dress well. You could be made a backbencher or to sit down with kings depending on your appearance. My kinsmen have a way of saying “big clothes are not big men,” but dressing well make you earn your respect from big men. It also improves your status among your peers. Society is very visually-based, and better-dressed people routinely experience better treatment and service than their sloppier counterparts. If you really want to be respected, then try this clue as you go into this new week.

It teaches responsibility

society always sees well-dressed people as being responsible. When you have your shoes well laced, shirts ironed, skirts plaiting significant and so on, the odds are very high that you are a responsible being. It is assumed that the mental habits of attention to detail and planning ahead translates to you coming from a very good home which could be translated into any career or skill. It is believed that you can handle things left in your care because you dared to stand out by paying attention to how you look. There is definitely a good sense of responsibility in proper dressing.

Remember you don’t have to spend extravagantly to dress well. You just have to be sharp, smart and neat in your dressing. Also, remember you only live once. Once is quite enough if you live it well (part of which is dressing well). Thanks for taking the time in reading this piece. Do have a well-dressed week.
