Confidence is one of the building blocks of life to an individual’s character.
Unfortunately, it’s a trait that not many of us have, not the fault of the individual. Why do people lose confidence, and how is confidence nurtured?
There are a series of reasons that people lose confidence. Very critical and unhealthy environments like the home, school and workplace and other varying life conditions can take away confidence. But to build back your confidence and self-esteem, move on from the past that has shaped the loss of confidence. Move on from the past and live in the present.
Begin with doing what needs to be done. When we carry out activities to accomplish, we can almost pat ourselves on the back, nudging that confidence back. This is irrespective of how significant that accomplishment is to an individual who makes you love you. Daily routines are part of this confidence booster because there are activities to be completed. Meeting up with daily set goals initiates the habit of doing more “little drops of water…” be a goal-getter.
Additionally, one thing that somehow makes its way into how we should live our lives is “Exercise”. All around, it’s good for individuals to indulge in, but in terms of building the confidence of individuals, exercise enables one to remember, kills stress hormones, keeps mood swings in check to wade off depression and it increases the ability to focus. Essentially exercise keeps you high on a good note.
Another thing to do is put on your brave face. The fear of falling is every man’s worst fear, but remember that without falling then there’s no learning. Fear paralysed and makes things stagnant. So try first to set small goals for yourself so as not to be stressed out by goals that may appear far-reaching and that’s how fear begins to creep in. Put in mind that the goal at hand is more valuable than the fear of failure.
The next step is to reflect on what your values are. This influences every decision-making process that’s to be taken because, in the long run, these decisions define character. Hence decisions that might not be of favour to you would have to be taken based on the values that one is guided by. Such actions bring a sense of confidence in character strength as it makes one proud.
Furthermore, keeping track of your achievements is a good confidence builder. However big or small they are, quantify your achievements as they bring to light the progress you have made so far. This will make you focused on your goals.
