Zenith Bank Plc has once again been recognised as the “Most Sustainable Bank, Nigeria” by the prestigious International Banker Magazine, retaining the honour for the second consecutive year.

The  Bank  is a leading financial institution in Nigeria, known for its excellent performance, sustainability initiatives, and commitment to corporate governance. With a track record of innovation and customer-centric solutions, the Bank continues to set benchmarks in the Nigerian banking sector.

The 2024 International Banker Banking Awards highlighted Zenith Bank’s exceptional commitment to sustainable banking practices, environmental and social responsibility, and adherence to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

Reacting to the award, Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This prestigious award underscores our steadfast commitment to sustainability and reinforces our belief that responsible banking is essential for long-term success and societal impact.”

Umeoji dedicated the award to the Bank’s Founder and Chairman, Dr. Jim Ovia, CFR, lauding his visionary leadership and strategic acumen in steering Zenith Bank towards new heights of excellence and sustainability.

As a trailblazer in sustainable banking, Zenith Bank has consistently published assured standalone sustainability reports in accordance with GRI Standards since 2016, becoming the first Bank in Africa to do so. The Bank is one of the few institutions in Nigeria that tracks its carbon emissions using a certified tool built on the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.

Zenith Bank’s commitment to the Triple Bottom Line principle of People, Planet, and Profit has solidified its position as a leader in the Nigerian banking industry and beyond. The Bank considers Environmental and Social risk management critical to its sustainability strategy, servicing various sectors of the economy.

The International Banker Awards recognize the most outstanding financial institutions globally, setting new performance levels for others to aspire to. The 2024 awards focused on criteria such as economic growth, innovation, sustainability, ESG principles, and intelligent investing.

Zenith Bank’s excellent performance has garnered numerous accolades, including being named Best Bank in Nigeria for four out of the last five years in the Global Finance World’s Best Banks Awards, and receiving top honors from reputable organizations like Euromoney, The Banker Magazine, World Finance, Ethical Boardroom, BusinessDay, and ThisDay Awards.
