Earlier today, a medium-range aircraft operated by Xejet Airlines encountered a runway mishap at Lagos Airport.
The Embraer 145 aircraft, bearing registration mark 5NBZZ, reportedly veered off Runway 18Left and into the grass verge during its landing sequence.
The flight, originating from Abuja Airport with 52 passengers and a crew complement, faced unexpected challenges upon its arrival at Lagos Airport.
Sources at the scene revealed that adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy rainfall, may have contributed to the incident, which occurred around 11:29 am local time.
Thankfully, prompt response efforts were initiated by the Aerodrome Fire and Safety Rescue Unit of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Emergency personnel swiftly mobilized to the site, initiating the evacuation process to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members aboard.
This isn’t the first such incident involving Xejet Airlines at Lagos Airport recently. Just moments before, another aircraft from the same carrier encountered a similar fate, skidding off the runway near position B5.
In light of these events, Runway 18Left has been temporarily closed to air traffic, pending further assessment and clearance procedures. The airline, renowned for its premium services and business-class exclusivity, operates primarily out of Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS).
As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the runway mishap unfold, authorities remain vigilant, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all air travelers amidst challenging weather conditions.
