Xabi Alonso confirms he is set to remain at Bayer Leverkusen next season
Xabi Alonso (42) confirmed in a press conference this afternoon that he is set to remain as Bayer Leverkusen manager next season, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
“We have had a lot of speculation regarding my future… I wanted to use the international break to reflect and take a decision. Last week, I had a very good meeting and informed the club my decision to continue being coach,” Alonso said.
“This is the right place for me to develop as a coach.
I am young coach and right now I feel this is the right place for me. The players have given me so many reasons to continue believing in the team. I feel my job is not over here.
“This is my first complete season as a manager. I still have a lot of things to prove.
“I feel stable at the club and with the team. I’ve shared my thoughts with the players and management. We have to enjoy this season. It’s going to be really intense but hopefully enjoyable.”
The Spaniard has been in huge demand after a stunning season so far, guiding Leverkusen to the brink of their first Bundesliga title, while also remaining in both cup competitions without losing a single game.
