Wolves Secure Tolu Arokodare In €27m Deal From Genk

Wolves Secure Tolu Arokodare In €27m Deal From Genk.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement in principle to sign KRC Genk’s prolific striker Tolu Arokodare, bolstering their attacking options ahead of the transfer deadline. The deal, valued at €27 million, was finalised on Friday evening, with the 24-year-old Nigerian international set to undergo a medical on Saturday.

Arokodare, who topped the Belgian Jupiler Pro League scoring charts last season with 17 goals in 30 appearances, brings a potent mix of physicality, pace, and clinical finishing to Molineux. Standing at 6ft 5in, the forward’s aerial prowess and versatility to operate across the front line make him a valuable addition to Vitor Pereira’s squad. His standout campaign also included seven assists, showcasing his ability to create as well as convert chances.

The move comes as Wolves aim to strengthen their forward line amid uncertainty surrounding Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has attracted interest from Newcastle United. While the club remain determined to retain the Norwegian, Arokodare’s arrival provides both depth and competition, ensuring Pereira’s side are well-equipped for the Premier League’s demands. Sources indicate the deal is not contingent on Larsen’s future, underlining Wolves’ ambition to build a robust attacking unit.

Personal terms have been agreed with Arokodare, who is expected to sign a five-year contract. His desire to play in the Premier League, previously expressed in interviews, aligns with this move, and negotiations progressed swiftly following a gentleman’s agreement with Genk, who were open to offers between €20-25 million. The €27 million fee, inclusive of add-ons, reflects Wolves’ determination to secure their target.

Genk manager Thorsten Fink confirmed Arokodare’s omission from their Europa League play-off against Lech Poznan on Thursday, citing ongoing transfer talks. “Negotiations are underway. It was too much of a risk to play him,” Fink said, signalling the club’s preparedness for the striker’s departure after securing a replacement.

The signing marks a significant coup for Wolves, who had faced setbacks in their pursuit of Getafe’s Christantus Uche due to disagreements over personal terms. Arokodare’s proven goalscoring record and physical attributes suggest he could adapt quickly to English football, offering fans hope of a revitalised attack as the club aim to climb the Premier League table.

With the transfer window closing on Monday, Wolves are also exploring options to reinforce their midfield, with names like Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney and Ajax’s Kenneth Taylor linked. However, the capture of Arokodare stands as a statement of intent, signaling a new chapter for the Old Gold as they push for a stronger campaign.
