WAFU U-20 Championship: Flying Eagles Determined To Recover From Defeat, Says Zubairu.
Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, has assured fans that his team will recover from their disappointing 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso at the WAFU B U-20 Championship. The defending champions struggled in their opening fixture, with the Young Stallions dominating the match.
Reflecting on the defeat, Zubairu admitted his team was outplayed but remains confident they will bounce back. The Flying Eagles now face a must-win situation in their final group match against Côte d’Ivoire to keep their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive.
“Burkina Faso are a very physical side, and we tried to match them for power, which went against my instructions,” Zubairu explained.
The coach emphasised the importance of their upcoming game, noting that his team needs to win by more than a goal to advance. “We have five days to prepare for the match against Côte d’Ivoire, and we will give everything to secure the result.”
Zubairu also urged fans to remain supportive, acknowledging the disappointment of the loss but emphasising his team’s resolve. “We share the pain of the fans because we shouldn’t have lost to Burkina Faso, but we ask them to keep believing in us.”
Despite the setback, the Flying Eagles are determined to push forward and turn things around in their campaign.
