In a stern rebuttal against deceptive practices, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has firmly denied any association with a fraudulent job advertisement circulating online.
The misleading advertisement, purportedly offering employment opportunities for ad-hoc staff to supervise and invigilate the upcoming West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates in 2024, has been exposed as a sham devised by unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit unsuspecting job-seekers.
Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Movosola Adesina, reiterated in a statement issued on Friday that the nomination of supervisors is exclusively managed by the respective Ministries of Education, while invigilators are appointed by schools presenting candidates for the examination.
Adesina emphasised WAEC’s steadfast commitment to ethical standards, affirming that the reputable examining authority maintains a stringent policy against soliciting monetary compensation from job applicants in exchange for employment opportunities.
The statement emphasised WAEC’s globally recognised stature and urged individuals to exercise caution when engaging with online platforms purportedly offering job opportunities with the examination body. WAEC made it clear that any transaction conducted through unauthorised channels, apart from the official WAEC website, exposes individuals to potential risks.
“The attention of the West African Examinations Council has been drawn to an online portal advertising job offers purportedly from the Council. The said website advertised job offers that are supposedly meant for ad-hoc staff who would serve as supervisors and invigilators in the forthcoming West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2024.
The Council would like to state categorically that the advertisement did not emanate from us and thereby dissociates itself from the fake job advert being circulated by unscrupulous individuals whose schemes are to defraud unsuspecting job-seekers.
WAEC is not currently engaging in recruitment activities. Whenever job opportunities arise, they are exclusively advertised through the daily newspapers, WAEC Nigeria’s official website (www.waecnigeria.org), and all of our social media platforms.”
