Following a brief afternoon downpour, the recently constructed Ochanja market road, overseen by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, has reportedly been washed away, barely a week after its completion.
Situated in the Onitsha South local government area of the state, Ochanja market road succumbed to the elements, with a viral video surfacing on Tuesday morning, shared by Onyebuchi Nwafor.
The footage depicts the asphalt coating peeled off, scattered in pieces, and waterlogged sections along the road.
Expressing dismay, a voice in the video highlighted concerns over the substandard quality of the project despite substantial expenditure from taxpayers’ funds.
The accompanying post lamented the swift degradation, attributing it to the inadequacies in the government’s execution of projects.
The video’s caption read, “Wonders they say shall never happen, but unfortunately, it happened. Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s one-week-old road washed away in a split second.” It continued, “The ‘Dubai-Taiwan’ Ochanja market road in Onitsha, constructed with billions of Anambra taxpayers’ money, has just been washed away by just one episode of 20 minutes of rainfall on Monday, 25th of March, 2024.”
The incident adds to a series of infrastructure setbacks in the region, including the collapse of a government-built two-story building at Ochanja Market, resulting in casualties.
As of now, the state government has yet to issue an official response to the video or address concerns raised regarding the quality of its infrastructure projects. Click here
