Vigilantes Rescue Abducted Woman In Lokoja Prayer Mountain Attack.
In a courageous act of community defence, local vigilantes have successfully rescued a woman, Mary Adams Gure, who was abducted by armed men during a violent raid on a prayer mountain in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
The incident occurred late on Thursday night, 11 April, around 11:00 p.m., when gunmen stormed a remote prayer site in the Egbola area along Agbaja Road. The attackers disrupted a religious gathering by firing sporadically to create panic before forcefully leading worshippers into the surrounding bush.
According to intelligence reports cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attackers sought to intimidate and overwhelm the worshippers. Amid the confusion, Gure managed to escape and was later rescued by vigilant community members who responded swiftly to the distress call.
Their brave intervention not only ensured Gure’s safety but also triggered a broader security response. A search-and-rescue operation is currently underway to locate the remaining abducted individuals.
While the Kogi State Police Command and other security agencies are yet to issue an official statement, the incident has drawn praise for the quick action of the local vigilantes and the ongoing efforts of security operatives.
The community has expressed hope that the remaining victims will be found and reunited with their families soon, as authorities intensify efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
