U.S. Men’s Olympic Team Eliminated by Morocco in Thrashing.
The United States men’s Olympic football team was eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Morocco, who now progress to the semi-finals.
Morocco dominated the match from the outset, with strong support from a favourable crowd. U.S. goalkeeper Patrick Schulte was called into action early on, making several crucial saves. However, the breakthrough for Morocco came when Nathan Harriel conceded a penalty by fouling Soufiane Rahimi in the box. Rahimi confidently converted the penalty, placing it into the bottom-left corner.
The United States had a golden opportunity to equalise in the 59th minute. A cross from the left wing found Miles Robinson, but his shot went wide of the post.
Just minutes after Robinson’s miss, Morocco doubled their lead. Abde Ezzalzouli made a decisive run down the left side of the penalty box and passed the ball to Ilias Akhomach, who scored from close range.
Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi added a third goal in the 70th minute, skilfully navigating through the U.S. defence before slotting the ball into the right corner.
Morocco sealed their victory in added time with a second penalty, scored by El Mehdi Maouhoub after a handball in the box.
This defeat marks the end of the road for the U.S. men’s Olympic football team in Paris, while Morocco moves forward with high hopes in the tournament.
