Dana Air has officially acknowledged reports of an incident involving one of its aircraft, bearing registration number 5N BKI, which skidded off the runway at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday morning.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the airline expressed regret over the incident, disclosing that the aircraft, en route from Abuja to Lagos, veered off the runway during landing. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, and all 83 passengers and crew onboard disembarked safely without any injuries.
The airline promptly informed the Accident Investigation Bureau and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority about the occurrence. The grounded aircraft is currently under investigation by Dana Air’s maintenance team.
Dana Air commended the swift response and professionalism displayed by airport authorities and its crew in ensuring the safety of all passengers. The management also expressed gratitude to the passengers for their patience and understanding during the ordeal.
Reassuring passengers of their safety as the airline’s top priority, Dana Air affirmed its full cooperation with relevant authorities in investigating the incident.
This incident is reminiscent of a similar occurrence in January 2018, when a Dana Air commercial aircraft made contact with a fence at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. Despite the aircraft brushing the fence while parking, no injuries were reported. However, passengers and sources at the airport attributed the incident to the aircraft’s pilot.
