From the Office of the Spokesperson, it has been revealed that Under Secretary of States for Arms Control and International Security, Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins, is set to embark on a diplomatic visit to Rabat and Marrakech, Morocco, from January 29 to February 2.
During this visit, she will head the U.S. Delegation to the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) African Political Meeting and Outreach Event.
The PSI event, co-chaired by Under Secretary Jenkins and Moroccan Director for African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Redouane Houssaini, aims to encourage African countries to endorse the PSI—an enduring global effort focused on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery systems, and related items.
This event, considered the largest ever held on the African continent, will witness Under Secretary Jenkins delivering the U.S. National Statement, engaging in bilateral meetings with counterparts from participating states, and attending a live demonstration on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense. The demonstration is designed to showcase capacity-building opportunities for PSI partners.
In Rabat, Under Secretary Jenkins is scheduled to hold a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to discuss bilateral cooperation between the United States and Morocco, as well as security issues in Africa.
This diplomatic mission underscores the commitment of the U.S. government to international collaboration on arms control, security, and non-proliferation efforts.
