Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has provided insights into the recent discussions between the union and the federal government regarding the removal of fuel subsidies.
Osifo shared details of their Tuesday meeting, which shed light on the government’s engagement with key stakeholders.
During the meeting, the Minister of Labour informed the TUC that he had conferred with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance to review the matter of wage awards.
However, President Tinubu requested further refinement of the issues before making an official announcement.
The Minister assured the TUC that these concerns would be addressed and streamlined. However, due to the President’s travel commitments, an additional two-week timeframe was proposed. The TUC firmly expressed its position, indicating an inability to extend the timeline.
Following further deliberations, it was agreed that the President would make a formal announcement on the matter in the coming week, signalling progress in the ongoing discussions surrounding fuel subsidy removal.
