Tragic Collision Claims Life Of LAWMA Official In Lagos.
A devastating incident unfolded late Monday night at Ketu Bus Stop in Lagos, where a Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) official was fatally injured in a collision involving a commercial minibus and a stationary compactor truck.
The accident occurred when a “Korope” minibus slammed into the LAWMA truck, which was parked at the roadside. The impact proved fatal for the LAWMA worker, who was on duty at the time. Despite the swift response of emergency services, the official passed away at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident and shed light on the circumstances. “Preliminary investigations suggest the crash resulted from reckless driving by the minibus driver, compounded by the absence of a properly positioned ‘C-Caution’ sign near the LAWMA truck,” he stated. The lack of adequate warning signage appears to have contributed to the tragedy
The minibus driver, who sustained serious injuries in the collision, was promptly attended to by paramedics and rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased LAWMA official has been transferred to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for further handling.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, with road safety and proper vehicle management likely to come under scrutiny in the wake of this heartbreaking loss. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety protocols on Lagos’ busy roads.
