Tom Cruise Stuns with Daring Abseil at Paris 2024 Olympic Finale.
Hollywood icon Tom Cruise thrilled audiences at the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony with a dramatic stunt, abseiling from the roof of the Stade de France. The “Mission: Impossible” star, known for performing his own stunts, descended into the stadium dressed in a leather jacket and gloves, as American singer H.E.R. played the electric guitar below.
The daring performance was part of the handover ceremony, marking the transition from Paris to Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Olympics. Cruise’s entrance was met with rapturous applause from spectators and athletes alike, as he made his way to the centre of the stadium to receive the Olympic flag from American gymnast Simone Biles.
Earlier in the evening, a pre-recorded video showed Cruise journeying through Paris before arriving in Los Angeles, where he unfurled the Olympic colours beneath the iconic Hollywood sign. The sequence was set to the music of California’s own Red Hot Chili Peppers, who later performed their hit “Can’t Stop” live on a beach in Los Angeles.
As the festivities continued, Cruise exited the stadium in style, riding a motorbike through a corridor of cheering athletes. His appearance was one of the highlights of the night, adding a cinematic touch to an already memorable ceremony.
The 62-year-old actor, who has previously scaled Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and clung to the outside of a plane in his films, once again proved his reputation as a thrill-seeker. Cruise had been a regular presence at the Games, supporting the U.S. team and enjoying the athletic feats on display.
Artistic director Thomas Jolly, who was behind the spectacular closing ceremony, also orchestrated a visually striking segment featuring dancers rolling giant Olympic rings across the stage. The event concluded with an energetic performance by French band Phoenix, bringing the Paris 2024 Olympics to a close with a mix of drama, music, and athletic celebration.
