Directing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Tinubu has initiated the urgent distribution of grains to ameliorate living conditions for vulnerable Nigerians.
Following a memo addressed to the FCT Minister on Tuesday, a strategic committee has been set up to oversee the transparent and equitable distribution of grains through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The committee, convened by FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, includes representatives from various sectors, such as chairpersons of the six area councils, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), traditional rulers, security agencies, faith-based organizations, and civil society groups.
Expressing disappointment at the initial response from area council chairpersons, Mahmoud emphasized the importance of timely and effective action to fulfill the president’s directive. She cautioned against any actions that could undermine the intended relief efforts for residents of the territory.
With less than two weeks to execute the presidential directive, the committee is tasked with ensuring that the distribution process reaches those most in need, including persons living with disabilities, women associations, youth groups, and other vulnerable segments of the population.
