The All Progressives Congress (APC), has received approval from President Bola Tinubu to start nationwide electronic registration of its members.
The approval was disclosed during a gathering at the APC headquarters in Abuja, where the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, welcomed 33 state chairmen of the party. Ganduje disclosed President Tinubu’s satisfaction with the state chairmen’s performance and emphasized the importance of electronic registration to consolidate the party’s membership strength.
Dr. Ganduje further elaborated on the progress made in the e-registration process, revealing plans to extend the initiative to grassroots levels across the nation. He urged the involvement of state officials in overseeing the recruitment of personnel for the registration exercise.
The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Duro Meseko, also outlined plans to train two officials from each state in Abuja to facilitate recruitment efforts for the registration drive.
The visitation of the state chairmen followed an earlier call by the Forum of APC Chairmen urging President Tinubu to address security challenges in the country. However, the focus of the meeting shifted towards party affairs, with an emphasis on enhancing membership transparency and accountability.
Alphonsus Ogah, Secretary of the forum, commended both President Tinubu and Dr. Ganduje for their efforts in stabilizing the party and the nation. Ogah stated the need to update the party membership register, especially in light of the disparities observed during the 2023 elections.
Acknowledging the need for a realistic assessment of the party’s membership strength, Ogah stressed the importance of matching registered members with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to gauge electoral outcomes accurately.
