The National Broadcasting Commission has granted Three Tees Entertainment Limited the licence to operate a dedicated children’s television station.
Led by former ThisDay Newspapers editorial member, Idowu Sowunmi, the station is poised to become a cornerstone in catering to the entertainment and educational needs of Nigeria’s burgeoning population of children.
Set to be headquartered in Lagos, the station aims to offer a diverse array of programming, including locally-produced content alongside international favourites such as cartoons, educational programmes, and live-action series.
Chairman and chief promoter of Three Tees Entertainment Limited, Sowunmi, expressed an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, age-appropriate content that fosters learning, creativity, and positive values. He emphasised the station’s role as a pivotal milestone in Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape.
Sowunmi stated, “At Three Tees Entertainment Limited, we are proud to spearhead this initiative. Our mission is to establish a platform that not only entertains but also educates Nigeria’s future leaders. Additionally, we have plans to launch the First Children’s Radio pending necessary approvals.”
Citing demographic statistics revealing that children aged 0 to 14 years constitute over 44 percent of Nigeria’s total population, Sowunmi underscored the station’s pivotal role in providing a voice and platform for children to express themselves and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
