At approximately 1:35 am on Friday, guards from the Nigeria Air Force on duty at the HQ NADC gate apprehended a cable thief near the airport road, adjacent to the NADC perimeter fence.
Three thieves were spotted attempting to dig up the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s underground armoured cable using tools such as a digger, shovel, and cutlass.
Upon seeing the guards, the thieves fled the scene, but one of the guards fired a shot at their shoulder, hitting one of the thieves named Usman Musa.
A statement issued by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, revealed that the arrested suspect, Usman Musa, 28 years old, hailing from Adamawa State and residing in Ijora, sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. He was promptly apprehended and taken to 661NAFH Ikeja.
“He is receiving treatment at General Hospital Oyingbo while his other two accomplices escaped. Usman Musa will be properly interrogated after he has stabilised.
“The Authority believes that this incident could be a relevant clue to unravelling the theft of the runway lighting at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.”
Recall that days ago , an unknown person carted away the recently reinstalled airfield lighting systems at the domestic runway 18r/36L of Murtala Muhammad Airport.
